SECUREiNFO, a Thai leading cybersecurity service provider, announced the winners of “Cybersecurity Hackathon by SECUREiNFO”, a competition that was organized to enhance Thai students’ competencies and skills on cybersecurity to reach the international-standard level.
SECUREiNFO cooperated with the Department of Computer Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering at Mahidol University organizing “Cybersecurity Hackathon by SECUREiNFO” during November 18-20, 2022.
Ms. Chotika Kamloonwesaruch, the Managing Director of SECUREiNFO Co. Ltd, said more than 130 students from various institutions participated in the competition, of which 45 passed the Mini Challenge test to enter the final round. Three of them, however, were selected to be the competition’s winners.
She said that the first-prize winner was awarded to Mr. Nutchanon Mongkolwilas, the first-year student from the Faculty of Computer Engineering at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
The first runner-up came to Ms. Penpiccha Sithisaengchai, the junior student in Computer Engineering from International College, Mahidol University, and the 2nd runner-up belonged to Mr. Sudrithi Wongsuwan, the second-year student in Public Administration from Royal Police Cadet Academy.
Mr. Nutchanon said that participating in the competition was a great opportunity to acquire new knowledge and enhance the skills especially in cyberattacks and incident response that can truly be applied for further cybersecurity missions.
“I’m very glad to have won the prize and I would like to thank all speakers who come to give valuable knowledge with easy-to-understand lectures,” he said.
In the competition, the participants also experienced CTF (Capture the Flag) contests and practiced report writing. “These activities gave the contestants all-round skills which differed from other contests,” Mr. Nutchanon noted.
Ms. Chotika added that all activities in the Cybersecurity Hackathon by SECUREiNFO were initiated in line with Samart Group’s mission in “creating quality people.” The competition, therefore, focused on creating knowledge for all the participants.
She said the contestants who pass a selection round were offered a chance to join in the two-day cybersecurity technical workshop to learn about Network Hacking, Web Application Hacking, and Incident Response from ThriveDX, the global leader in cyber security training from Israel, which has over 15 years of experience in cybersecurity training both in Europe and America.
The Hackathon activity was also held in parallel in Singapore, India and Hong Kong, so the participants in Thailand could gain new experiences in the international-level competition as well.
“The participants could get experiences which are far different from what they learnt in the classroom. All activities help them strengthen all-round cybersecurity skills, so they can use the knowledge to further develop and enhance their professionalism in cybersecurity which will eventually benefit their universities and the country as a whole,” Ms. Chotika concluded.
